The Lollipop Baby Camera relies on a Wi-Fi connection to upload video streaming and additional data. It is therefore very important to ensure your Lollipop Baby Camera can maintain a stable connection to your home Wi-Fi network. A degraded connection may cause video stuttering or distortion, static noises in the audio, or camera disconnection.
Here are some tips you can try out to improve or diagnose connectivity.
1.Self-diagnosis the network connection in the App
You can always utilize the Lollipop App’s built-in Network Diagnosis function to check the current network connection quality on your camera. Sometimes the connection drop is caused by the Phone/Pad to the AWS cloud or Wi-Fi router. You may check the connectivity issue and find the reason of the disconnection.
For the best experience, a score of the Wi-Fi signal of 75/100 or higher is preferred. We also recommend against using a Wi-Fi extender or mobile hotspot.
2.Please make sure that your home internet is functioning properly
The Lollipop Baby Monitor is a network camera that continuously records real-time footage through an internet connection. Sometimes, while your mobile device smoothly streams videos and messages over the internet, the Lollipop monitor experiences frequent disconnections or fails to connect properly. This is because the Lollipop monitor relies more heavily on a stable internet connection than typical usage to transmit data.
We recommend conducting a simple test. While using the Lollipop monitor in your environment, try simultaneously playing online games, video chatting with family and friends, or watching live streams. If the monitor struggles to load real-time footage or fails to deliver notifications promptly, it indicates that your home's internet signal is insufficient to support all these activities simultaneously.
If your Wi-Fi AP(router) runs on two frequencies(2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) with different SSIDs, please make sure that the camera and your devices connect to the same SSID (frequency) to prevent unstable connections.
Sometimes we move around the house and when the device leaves the signal area, the signal becomes weak, then devices might jump to the other network, or even jump to a carrier 4G/5G network, causing unstable connectivity.
3.Improve signal strength
If you find your camera reporting low Wi-Fi signal reception, you can try relocating your camera or your Wi-Fi router, so they have a shorter distance between them. Note that if you have a solid wall between the two, your camera may receive a reduced signal intensity due to obstruction.
Additional note about Wi-Fi extenders: they do expand the network coverage by eliminating potential dead zones created by walls and obstructions, but they don't do much improving the local signal strength. If you are using one, please make sure the extender itself receives a strong signal from your main Wi-Fi router, by placing your extender closer to the main Wi-Fi router.
4.Improve internet bandwidth
If your camera and mobile device are sharing the same Wi-Fi network with other devices, please make sure the camera still has access to sufficient bandwidth. You can run a speed test on https://www.speedtest.net/ on your mobile device while being next to your Lollipop Baby Camera and connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
The recommended minimum speed for both download and upload is 10 Mbps.
You can run the speed test while all other devices are disconnected for the maximum available bandwidth for reference, or run the test when everything is connected and operating for the actual bandwidth availability under normal usage conditions.
5.Reduce wireless interference
In addition to cordless phones and other wireless video cameras that rely on wireless communication technology, some household items such as power cables, microwave ovens and fluorescent lights may also create interference around them, causing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices to disconnect or perform poorly. If you have multiple Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices using the same 2.4 GHz frequency band, you may also experience issues.
You can try reconfiguring your Wi-Fi router to use a different Wi-Fi channel, or performing a rescan or restart on the router to search for a better channel.
6.Reboot the camera
Sometimes shutting things down and turning them back on works surprisingly well. Please unplug the camera, wait around 10 seconds and then plug it back in.
7.Reboot the router
In case your Wi-Fi network isn’t showing up, or your camera is having trouble establishing an internet connection, it’s a good idea to reboot your router, modem, and any wireless-repeaters.
You may need to wait as long as 30 seconds before restarting your device. Please refer to the manual or contact the manufacturer of the router for detailed steps for your specific device.
8.Update the Lollipop App and the camera firmware
Keeping your Lollipop App and camera firmware up to date ensures better stability and improvements. To update the Lollipop App, please head over to Google Play Store or Apple App Store and update the app. For the firmware you can perform an update within the Lollipop App.
Tip: you can always utilize the Lollipop App’s built-in Network Diagnosis function to check the current network connection quality on your camera.
